The author of book series How to Train Your Dragon has visited Harpenden to open a school's new learning hub.

Cressida Cowell visited Wood End School in Yeomans Avenue on Friday (September 29) along with the town's mayor Fiona Gaskell.

The author delivered a number of "lively, thought-provoking assemblies" and signed books during the visit.

The new learning hub - opened by Cressida Cowell - includes a library, computer suite and music room.

Wood End School's headteacher Richard Boulton said: "We are delighted with our new resource, and it will definitely further enhance reading for pleasure at Wood End.

"Our full time librarian has ensured that children of all ages have a plethora of quality literature to choose from.

"We could not have achieved this without the constant support of FoWE (Friends of Wood End), our parents, governors and staff, and a significant contribution for books from The Harpenden Trust.”

Cressida Cowell took to Twitter following the event, to express her pleasure at opening the school's hub.

She wrote: "Amazing day, had the pleasure of opening a truly magnificent new school library at Wood End School in Harpenden, here with the inspirational head teacher and with the wonderful and very experienced librarian.”
