The new Liberal Democrat councillor for Marshalswick East and Jersey Farm has described the role as "a huge honour" after being elected last week.
Following a vote on Thursday (August 17), Raihaanah Ahmed was elected to St Albans City & District Council, with 774 votes.
According to St Albans Liberal Democrats, Cllr Ahmed runs a local hospitality business with her husband, and worked with GP trusts to set up vaccination centres during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Raihaanah also set up the St Albans Community Pantry during lockdown, which helps to feed those in need.

Following the by-election, Cllr Ahmed said: "It’s such a huge honour to be elected as a councillor in my home area of Marshalswick East and Jersey Farm and I want to thank everyone who voted for me.
"I love our community and can’t wait to hit the ground running.”
The deputy leader of St Albans City & District Council, Helen Campbell, added: "We Liberal Democrats pride ourselves on electing councillors who really understand the heart of our communities.
"Raihaanah will be a really strong addition to our council group and will be a strong voice in representing her local community."
