The Liberal Democrats have been successful in the by-election for Marshalswick East & Jersey Farm.

Following a vote yesterday (Thursday, August 17), Rehana Ahmed (commonly known as Raihaanah Ahmed) was elected to St Albans City & District Council, with 774 votes.

The Conservative Party's Frances Mary Leonard secured 661 votes, whilst the Green Party's James Richard Lomas gained 102.

The Labour Party's Nicholas Henry Pullinger (commonly known as Nick Pullinger) achieved 82 votes, whilst independent candidate Samuel Alexander Posner secured 62.

The seat became vacant following the resignation of Elissa Da Costa-Waldman in June.
