Tom Hanks and Steven Spielberg’s Bridge of Spies at the Alban Arena
PUBLISHED: 09:00 22 January 2016
It is Tom Hanks to the rescue when Steven Spielberg’s Bridge of Spies is shown at the Alban Arena next week.
The film is set during the Cold War when the Soviet Union captures US pilot Francis Gary Powers after shooting down his U-2 spy plane.
Sentenced to 10 years in prison, Powers’ only hope is New York lawyer James Donovan (Tom Hanks) who is recruited by a CIA operative to negotiate his release.
Donovan boards a plane to Berlin, hoping to win the young man’s freedom through a prisoner exchange. If all goes well, the Russians would get Rudolf Abel (Mark Rylance), the convicted spy whom Donovan defended in court.
Bridge of Spies can be seen at 7.30pm next Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, January 26-28 and at 1.30pm on Wednesday, January 27.
Tickets for matinees are £5 and for evenings, they are £7 or £5 for concessions, available from the Arena box office on 01727 844488 or online.
