AN AWARD-winning play by Rebecca Russell is being performed at the Abbey Theatre Studio as part of the St Albans Festival.
The Colours of Kenny Roach is a powerful piece of drama about a talented Glasgow artist, Kenny, who risks everything he holds dear if he loses his battle with alcohol.
Kenny is played by John Stenhouse and the author, Rebecca, plays his artist wife Lisa. The play is directed by Jon Russell who also designed the intricate technical plot for the play in which art and sound form part of the presentation that is Kenny’s life.
Tidemark took a one-act version of the play to the Welwyn Drama Festival last week where it swept the boards winning three gongs including Best New Play and Best Actor for John Stenhouse. It was also nominated for Best Staging for the technical plot.
An art exhibition is being held in the New Room, next door to the Studio, featuring the work of artists Claire McInnerny and Alice Moloney whose work is also used during the production.
Entry to the exhibition before the performance, during the interval and after the performance is included as part of the ticket price and works will be available for purchase or commission.
The Colours of Kenny Roach is being performed from next Wednesday, June 23, until Saturday, June 26, and tickets are available from the Abbey Theatre box office on 01727 857861 or from the festival box office on 01727 844488.
