A performing arts school in St Albans is celebrating one of its best ever sets of examination results.

Theatrix students distinguished themselves in their Trinity College Drama and Speech Examinations at the Abbey Theatre recently.

The exams require candidates to perform prepared and improvised work in front of a Trinity College examiner with the pass mark set at 65% and a distinction only awarded for marks over 85%.

Over the 47 examination sessions held from 1997-2015, Theatrix students have averaged a pass rate of 99.35% with most candidates achieving a merit or distinction.

Principal Rosemarie Partridge said: “This is one of the best set of exam results Theatrix students have achieved in the 35 years of the school’s existence.”

She went on: “Our younger or less experienced candidates also did startlingly well. Both individual and groups of students are honing their talents for the future. We look forward to building on their achievements.”

Singled out for particular praise were Sophie Ruane-Lewis and Rebecca Turner top-marked with 98% in their Shakespeare exam and Katie Walton who achieved 95% in her solo exam and 97% in her pairs exam.
