Sixties icon and folk legend Judy comes to town

Defining the idealism and determination of a generation, folk legend Judy Collins is appearing at the Alban Arena next Wednesday, October 21. The sixties icon, now 75, spearheaded opposition to social and environmental injustice with her vocals, songwriting and personal life triumphs.
She is renowned for her interpretations of traditional and contemporary folk standards and her own original compositions. She still writes, tours worldwide and nurtures fresh talent.
Judy is also an accomplished painter, filmmaker, record label head, musical mentor, and an in-demand keynote speaker for mental health and suicide prevention.

The Robert Cray Band will be singing the blues at the Arena next Friday, October 23.
Considered one of the greatest guitarists of his generation, Robert Cray has been laying down blues and soul tracks for the past four decades.
In just over 40 years he and his band have recorded 20 studio releases, 15 of which have been on the Billboard charts, and played bars, concert halls, festivals and arenas around the world.
Robert has played with the likes of Eric Clapton, Buddy Guy, Jimmie Vaughan, and Stevie Ray Vaughan.
Special guest for the evening, which gets underway at 7.30pm, is Shawn Jones who is regarded as the epitome of American roots/rock music.
Tickets are £39.50 and £32.50.
Beardyman brings his new, critically-acclaimed show, One Album per Hour to the Arena at 8pm next Saturday, October 24.
Following two sell-out runs at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe in 2013 and 2014, the musician/comedian is on his debut UK tour.
His inspiration comes entirely from audience suggestions which are improvised on the spot, created by singing, rapping, beatboxing and live looping.

The Miami Pro Universe Championships comes to the Arena next Sunday, October 25.
Fitness stars and top fitness models will compete to be crowned the next UK Champions in 10 different categories.
It gets underway at 2.30pm and tickets are £29.
* Comedy thriller The Legend of Barney Thomson is being screened at the Arena next Tuesday, October 20, and Thursday, October 22.
Directed by and starring Robert Carlyle, the film tells the story of an awkward, diffident Glaswegian barber who lives a life of desperate mediocrity.
But Barney’s life is about to go from zero to 60 in five seconds as he finds himself living the life of a serial killer after accidentally killing his boss.
The film is being screened at 7.30pm and tickets are £7 with concessions £5.
