Rookery Nook

COMIC conjugal confusion is at the heart of Rookery Nook by Ben Travers, the next production from the Company of Ten at the Abbey Theatre in St Albans.

One of Travers’ original Aldwych farces, it is set in 1926 and follows the misadventures of newlywed Gerald Popkiss on holiday, without his wife, at the eponymous Rookery Nook.

The sudden arrival of Rhoda, a pretty young woman in wet pyjamas who is fleeing from her formidable father, is the catalyst for a great deal of confusion.

Gerald’s conundrum is compounded by the bizarrely believable behaviour of a cast of classic caricatures including a coarse old sea salt, two harridans and a sour sister in law.

Rookery Nook runs from next Friday, June 10, until Saturday, June 18, and tickets can be obtained from the box office on 01727 857861 or online at
