SUPERHEROES and a "bear of very little brain" come to the big screen at the Alban Arena next week.

First to be shown is Thor, directed by Kenneth Branagh, which is being shown at 7.30pm next Tuesday, August 2.

Thor (Chris Hemsworth) is cast out of the fantastic realm of Asgard by his father Odin (Anthony Hopkins) for his arrogance. Sent to earth to live among humans, he falls in love with scientist Jane Foster (Natalie Portman).

She teaches Thor much-needed lessons and his new-found strength comes into play as a villain from his homeland sends dark forces towards Earth.

The first big screen Pooh adventure from Disney in more than 35 years is being shown as a matinee and evening performance next Wednesday, August 3.

Winnie the Pooh, which can be seen at 1.30pm and 7.30pm, reunites audiences with the “bear of very little brain” and friends Tigger, Eeyore, Rabbit, Piglet, Kanga and Roo.

X-Men Charles Xavier (James McAvoy) and Erik Lensherr (Michael Fassbender) are locked in an eternal war in the latest movie in the series which is being shown at 7.30pm next Thursday, August 4.

Bearing the names Professor X and Magneto, they were once the closest of friends working together with other mutants to stop the greatest threat the world has ever known. But in the process, a rift has opened up which is at the heart of X-Men: First Class.

Brotherhood of warriors, the Green Lantern Corps, face a new enemy in the movie which is being shown next Friday, August 5.

The small but powerful force formed by the different races from the universe is sworn to keep inter-galactic order and each Green Lantern wears a ring that grants him super powers.

But when a new enemy called Parallax threatens to destroy the balance of power in the universe their fate and that of the Earth lie in the hands of their newest recruit, Hal Jordan, played by Ryan Reynolds.

Green Lantern can be seen at 7.30pm.

Tickets for the matinee are £4 and for evening performances £6 with concessions £2 off, available from the Arena box office on 01727 844488 or online at www.alban-arena.co.uk
