START the new year with a laugh! That's the message coming from STARTS - St Albans Arts - which runs the popular Funny First Mondays at O'Neill's in Victoria Street.

Pappy's Fun Club - featuring Ben, Brendan, Matthew and Tom - have built up something of a cult following through their live performances. They were nominated for Chortle's Best Newcomer Act, appeared on Radio Four and their Edinburgh show was nominated for the Comedy Best Show Award.

Jim Grant makes a return to St Albans having held the fort in August while regular Funny First Mondays compere and host Mike Manera was wowing audiences in Edinburgh.

Jim has performed stand-up to the widest possible variety of audiences from black-tie diners to northern working men's clubs.

He even compered a show in Brighton from a metal platform suspended over a shark tank!

Gary Colman completes the January line-up. Gary used to be an army doctor but was discharged just before the Gulf War on medical grounds and principally he says for being "a rubbish doctor". He is now a well-established and popular host and performer at various comedy clubs around the country and is a member of the Electric Mouse Comedy Collective.

Table service for Monday's event starts at 7pm with the comics appearing between 8pm and 10pm. Admission is £5.
