A MOVIE based on a true story of a Chinese boy forced to make impossible choices between his family and the woman he loves is the next screening from Harpenden Film Society.

It is showing Mao’s Last Dancer at Harpenden Public Halls at 8pm next Wednesday, March 30.

It tell the story of Li Cunxin, a Chinese boy plucked from his village at the age of 11 and taken to Beijing to study ballet. In 1979, during a cultural exchange to Texas, he falls in love with an American woman but political obstacles stand in the way.

The screenplay is by Shine writer Jan Sardi and it is directed by Bruce Beresford who also directed Driving Miss Daisy.

Tickets are £4.50 for adults and available from the website www.harpendenfilmsociety.co.uk or in person from the Public Halls or WH Smith.
