A VARIETY of films are followed by a live music concert at the Alban Arena next week.

First to be screened next Tuesday, July 30, is the 2012 French drama Renoir, based on the last years of the impressionist painter at Cagnes-sur-Mer during World War I.

The film, which starts at 7.30pm, tells the forgotten story of Andree Heuschling, also known as Catherine Hessling, who was Pierre-Auguste Renoir’s last model and the first actor in the films of his son, the film director Jean Renoir.

Andree was the link between two famous and widely acclaimed artists, a father and son, one at the end of his career and the other still searching for himself.

Set in the south of France, it stars Michel Bouquet, Christa Theret, Thomas Doret and Vincent Rottiers.

Tickets for evening showings are £7 with £5 concessions and for matinees £5, available from the Arena box office on 01727 844488 or online at www.alban-arena.co.uk

Australian drama The Eye Of The Storm screens at The Arena at 1.30pm and 7.30pm the following day, Wednesday, July 31.

In the Sydney suburb of Centennial Park, two nurses, a housekeeper and a solicitor attend to Elizabeth Hunter as her expatriate son and daughter convene at her deathbed.

But in dying, as in living, Mrs Hunter remains a powerful force on those who surround her.

Based on the novel by Nobel Prize winner Patrick White, The Eye Of The Storm stars Geoffrey Rush, Judy Davis and Charlotte Rampling and is a savage exploration of family relationships – and the sharp undercurrents of love and hate, comedy and tragedy, which define them.

Biopic The Look Of Love is being shown at the Arena at 7.30pm next Thursday, August 1.

Steve Coogan plays Paul Raymond, the King of Soho, so dubbed by the press because of his huge club and property empire which, along with his porn business, amassed him a fortune of billions of pounds.

Michael Winterbottom’s film also stars Anna Friel, Stephen Fry, Chris Addison and David Walliams.

Gospel musical concert, Total Praise – A Celebration, comes to the Arena at 6pm next Saturday, August 3.

It features various acts such as street and contemporary dance, worship dance, dramatic poems and more.

Joining them is gospel artist and one-time MOBO Award winner, GUVNA B, who recently topped the UK gospel music charts.

Tickets are £17.
