A celebration of everything Christmassy can be found in a family show being performed this Sunday. (14)

Suitable for children aged five and upwxards, the show from Squashbox Theatre celebrates fir trees, fairy lights, stockings and sleigh bells - as well as cookies, crackers, presents and puddings. Children are invited to meet a snowman who lives in the fridge, spot naughty elves, hear the tale of the first Christmas tree, play hunt the brussel sprout and endure the world’s worst Christmas jumper.

There are also festive craft workshops inspired by the show in The Weston Auditorium at the University of Herts in Hatfield.

Admission is £10 (£8 concessions) and workshops £4. Tickets are available from 01707 281127 or book online at

On the same evening, one of the world’s most gifted musical families is performing with the university’s de Havilland Philharmonic.

The trio is made up of world-renowned pianist Francis Grier and his award-winning musician daughters violinist Savitri and cellist Indira. The Grier Trio have performed across the UK for over 12 years at many major venues.

The de Havilland Philharmonic will present Marriage of Figaro to set the scene of anticipation for two major 19th century works.

The first, Schubert’s Symphony No.9 ‘The Great’, was reported by Schumann to be ‘the greatest work since Beethoven’s death’.

The Grier Trio will then join the orchestra for a performance of Beethoven’s Triple Concerto, a concerto for all three soloists.

The concert starts at 7.30pm and admission is £20 (£15 concessions and £8 children).
