A FAIRYTALE is brought to life for the first production of the New Year at the Trestle Theatre in St Albans.

The Theatre of Widdershins are back with a specially reheeled version of the Grimm Brothers' tale and Ladybird classic, The Elves and The Shoemaker, at 2pm on Sunday.

Next up on Friday, February 1, is a play called Tangle put on by the multi-award-winning Unlimited Theatre. Set in an underground research facility where two scientists are on the verge of an incredible breakthrough, Tangle is a story all about probabilities.

Another fairytale - this time Beauty and The Beast - takes to the stage at 2pm on Sunday, February 3, put on by Proteus Theatre.

Tavaziva Dance will explode onto the stage with their trademark mix of traditional African and Western contemporary dance at 7.30pm on Friday, February 15. Set to music ranging from Zimbabwean choral to Tuku ghetto sounds, Chatsva will have audiences dancing to their tribal beat.

A fortnight later Maverick Theatre presents Henry V, one of Shakespeare's finest play, at 7.30pm on Friday, February 29. Featuring much of the original text, this spirited one-man show includes an evocative and original live music score and brilliant special effects.

Next up is a comedy called Black Stuff performed by Shams Theatre at 8pm on Friday, March 7. A couple's Mexican honeymoon turns sour when they realise they are caught in a global oil crisis with no easy way out.

Rounding off the season are children's theatre specialists Travelling Light who return with their new show Shadow Play, a mix of music, dance, mime and design that celebrates children's natural creativity at 2pm on Sunday, March 16.
