A CELEBRATION of the life of jazz legend Tony Levin who died in February is being held at the Herts Jazz Club on Sunday night.

It is being given by a combination of students he taught at the Birmingham Conservatoire, his fellow tutors there and some of his lifelong friends.

Tony’s career shot into prominence when he became Tubby Hayes’ drummer at a very early age, later becoming one of Europe’s most respected percussionists. He last played at the Herts Jazz Club in December last year.

Appearing on Sunday night at the club which meets at Campus West, Welwyn Garden City, is Liam Noble, piano, Tim Thornton, bass, Chris Draper and Clark Tracey, drums, and guest appearances from Alan Skidmore, Jean Toussaint, Stan Sulzmann and Steve Melling.

Admission is £10 online at www.welhat.gov.uk/cw, £12 on the door and £5 for students and under-21s.
