One of the country’s top saxophonists will be performing in Welwyn Garden City this weekend.

The Simon Spillett Quartet plays Herts Jazz Club on Sunday night.

A recent recipient of the Services to British Jazz Award, the multi-award winning saxophonist returns to the CW Entertainment venue to explore the heritage of the great Tubby Hayes, through his compositions and preferred choice of material spanning Tubby’s short but significant life.

Simon Spillett, who has rubbed shoulders with some of the greatest names in British jazz history and now forged a unique place in his own field, delivers a powerful message with his formidable technique and his singular knowledge of jazz in this country.

He is joined in Screen 2 of the Garden City Cinema/Hawthorne Theatre complex on Sunday by some of the great names in jazz, including the now legendary John Critchinson on piano, with whom Simon has established a long and meaningful musical relationship since John worked in the late great Ronnie Scott’s Quintet.

Also performing as part of the Simon Spillett Quartet will be Alec Dankworth on bass and Herts Jazz supremo Clark Tracey on drums.

Advance tickets cost £3 students, £9 members, £11 concessions and £12 full.

Walk-ups are £5 students, £10 members, £13 concessions and £14 full.

The concert starts at 7.30pm.
