THE GODFATHER of British Jazz, Stan Tracey CBE, will be performing at the Herts Jazz Club this Sunday, December 4, where he’ll play his first new compositions in 15 years.

A resident of St Albans, Stan will unveil his latest jazz suite based on A Child’s Christmas in Wales by Dylan Thomas.

The Stan Tracey Quartet, completed by Clark Tracey on drums, bassist Andrew Cleyndert and saxophonist Simon Allen, will be joined by Stan’s grandson Ben Tracey, who will be narrating.

Stan said: “I’ve always had a particular fondness for Dylan Thomas’ short story A Child’s Christmas in Wales, because it evokes so many memories of the festival when I was a child. I hope the music reflects some of the pleasure it gave me.”

The performance coincides with the launch of the quartet’s new CD.

Tickets cost £5 for students and under 21s, £13 online, £16 at the door and £10 for members. The show starts at 7.45pm at Campus West, Welwyn Garden City.
