St Albans concert to remember music therapist Tony Wigram

FAMILY and friends of local musician and world renowned music therapist Tony Wigram are joining forces to stage a memorial concert in St Albans this month.

And the concert will raise funds for a new foundation which has been set up in memory of Professor Wigram who died last year.

The concert at St Saviour’s Church in Sandpit Lane starts at 7pm next Sunday, June 24, the anniversary of his death.

It will feature his wife, well-known violinist Jenny, together with their sons, cellist Michael and viola and saxophone player David together with Robert who will join in some close harmony singing.

Joining the instrumentalists in the first half of the concert which will consist of chamber music will be well-known local pianist Lynn Carter and cellist Jessie Ann Richardson who is a member of the Piatti Quartet alongside David. Also playing in the group will be local violin teacher and family friend Sue Appel.

The second half of the concert will mainly be a performance of Faure’s Requiem, with a choir and orchestra of Tony’s friends and colleagues, conducted by Christopher Muhley.

Admission to the concert is free and there will be retiring collection in aid of the new foundation which is being set up to help fund students of Music Therapy Research.
