Music across the ages will be celebrated by St Albans Choral Society at their Christmas concert of music and readings this Sunday. (11)

It is being held at 7pm in Marlborough Road Methodist Church where the choir will perform favourites such as the Coventry Carol, with its words come from a medieval mystery play, and the traditional English Sussex Carol.

The carols will be accompanied by three works specially selected by music director George Vass for this year’s concert.

The first is Mendelssohn’s motet Frohlocket, ihr Völker auf Erden (Rejoice, Ye People on Earth) followed by John Tavener’s Today the Virgin, a 20th century take on plainsong, and contemporary composer Johnathan Dove’s Seek Him that maketh the Seven Stars.

The audience will be invited to join in popular carols such as Good King Wenceslas and Hark the Herald Angels Sing, and the music will be interspersed with four readings on festive themes by members of the choir.

Mr Vass said: “Our Celebration of Christmas concert welcomes adults and children of all ages and we look forward to a full house to help us launch the festive period, It’s a wonderful opportunity for everyone to participate and experience the spirit of the season.”

Tickets priced £13 (£1 for children) are available in advance from SACS Ticket Line on 07555 610095, online, or on the door.
