THE centrepiece of next Wednesday’s lunchtime concert at a city centre church will be Philip Lane’s Some Rhymes of Lewis Carroll.

The work will be performed by musicians from St Margaret’s School, Bushey, whose choir will also sing pieces by Warlock, JS Bach and Mendelssohn.

The free concert starts at 1pm at St Peter’s Church with a retiring collection in aid of Grove House.

n PUPILS from St Albans School gave the St Peter’s lunchtime concert recently.

Representatives from across the age ranges at the Abbey Gateway school entertained the audience with a wide variety of music from JS Bach to Cole Porter. There was also a selection of instruments involved including pianos and cellos.

Pieces performed on the day included Camille Saint-Saëns’ Danse Macabre, arranged by Edward Gregson and a rendition of Bart Howard’s Fly Me to the Moon.

Other highlights were Chris Springthorpe, 17, who played Allemande from Suite No. 1 on the cello and Eleanor Rosser-Smyth, 18, singing Evensong by Liza Lehman.

The school’s musicians will also be joining those from St Albans High School on March 21 for the Joint Schools’ Concert at St Albans Abbey.
