A St Albans-based Elvis tribute had more than 600 underprivileged children all shook up in Central London on Sunday afternoon.

Elvis Shmelvis, aka Martyn Dias of Chiswell Green, donned his suit, cape and sunglasses and joined Eastenders actors, pop singers and dozens of children’s entertainers at the Grosvenor House Hotel in Park Lane, in aid of the London Taxi Drivers’ Fund.

Martyn said: “I attend the event every year and every year it’s humbling to see so many disadvantaged kids enjoying my music,” he said.

Elvis Shmelvis was the headline act of the afternoon and had the hall singing along to hits such as Hound Dog, Viva Las Vegas and The Wonder Of You.

A selection of Eastenders, Big Brother and X Factor stars were at the event as well as pop duo The Cheeky Girls who were there for the sixth year running. they signed autographs and posed for photos for hours after performing on the stage normally used during the BAFTAs.

Martyn added: “It’s great seeing them and also celebs like Joe Swash here year after year. Everyone has such a fun day and I can’t wait for the next one.”

The London Taxi Driver’s Fund for Underprivileged Children has been running since 1928 and devotes its time to treating children to days out in and around the capital.
