Bank holiday organ recital at St Albans Cathedral
There’s a chance to hear St Albans Cathedral’s magnificent organ being played at a free recital on August Bank Holiday Monday.
Andrew Lucas, Master of the Music at St Albans Cathedral, will give an organ recital on the renowned Harrison & Harrison organ at 1pm on August 27.
His programme includes works by Wesley, Smart, Howells, Leighton and Wagner.
This year, Andrew Lucas marks 20 years as Master of the Music at St Albans Cathedral, where he directs the Cathedral Choir of boys and men.
In addition, he masterminded the refurbishment of the cathedral organ, which was undertaken from 2007 to 2009, and has directed the Cathedral’s internationally renowned choirs on best-selling and critically acclaimed recordings.
Tom Winpenny, assistant Master of the Music, said: “Organ music continues to play an integral part in the life of the Cathedral, and throughout the city through the biennial International Organ Festival.
“Recitals given by the Cathedral’s resident organists provide the opportunity to hear a full-length organ concert demonstrating the versatility of the Cathedral’s wonderfully restored organ in some of the greatest works of the organ repertoire.”
Admission is free, with a retiring collection in aid of St Albans Cathedral music funds.
