ST ALBANS will be alive with the sound of music this Sunday as the third Bandstand Marathon pipes up in Clarence Park.

This year’s programme features an upbeat programme of jazz and swing with the Duncan Fraser Quartet, and guest vocalist Toby Allen, topping the afternoon bill.

The BSV Community Jazz Band, an ensemble of parents of children from Beaumont, Sandringham and Verulam Schools, will kick start the afternoon. Their repertoire includes Duke Ellington, George Gershwin and Herbie Hancock.

The Bandstand Marathon will see a number of enthusiastic performances from local bands at locations across Hertfordshire. Run as part of the Cultural Olympiad, it aims to revitalise public spaces by having as many bands perform on as many bandstands and outdoor performance spaces all at the same time on the same day throughout the UK.

The event is now in its fourth year and is a chance to celebrate local musical talent.
