STUDENTS from one of the country's leading specialist music schools entertained an audience of around 100 at a concert in Harpenden's Rothamsted Manor this month.
Music for the Month of May, organised by Harpenden Lions, was held in the Great Drawing Room and was performed by students from the Purcell School in Bushey.
They played a varied programme including pieces for piano, oboe, French horn and piano as well as voice.
Organiser Mike Kelly said: "I was astonished to hear such amazing music from these talented young children aged between 12 and 16. The audience just loved it and the enthusiastic applause proved the popularity."
Over £1,300 was raised from ticket sales and sponsorship from HSBC and Harpenden Musicale and the three charities which will benefit are the Towersey Foundation which works in conjunction with the Pasque Hospice, CLIC Sargent and the Purcell School itself which relies upon public support to meet the cost of providing scholarships for its young musicians.
Mike added: "This was the first time we have partnered with Purcell for these concerts. We intend to ask them back next year - by popular demand.
