Children's author Heather Trefusis was the guest at Harpenden Library on Saturday as part of a national showcase.

Heather, from Harpenden, took part in a book reading, signing and Q&A session for local children to help celebrate National Libraries Day.

Now in its fifth year, it finds libraries all over the country organising special events and showcasing what they have to offer.

Heather, who wrote the Four Little Hens series of books, said: “I was delighted to be involved. Harpenden Library has been a very important part of my life since I was tiny, and I now spend a lot of time here with my young son too.”

Young readers and writers had plenty of questions for Heather and craft activities and a book-themed treasure hunt were also part of the day’s activities.

Library assistant Jacqui Guinchard, who organised the event along with manager Emma Sexton, said, “It’s been a huge success; we’ve had a great turnout and the feedback from the children and their parents has been fantastic.”
