AS new recruits have been auditioning for the 2010 St Albans gang show, accolades are still being heaped on the 2009 show.

The show in February has won two awards in the National Operatic and Dramatic Associations (NODA) Awards in the Eastern Region.

It won in the categories of Best Chorus for Singing and Movement and Best Use of Costumes.

NODA is the national organisation representing amateur theatre in the UK and has Andrew Lloyd Webber as its patron.

Gang Show producer David Barker said that it meant a lot to a youth production for the cast and production team to receive recognition for the tremendous effort that everyone put in to creating such a professional show.

He added: "What more can I say - we are absolutely delighted and it's made even more special as this is the centenary year of guiding."

Nearly 150 guides, scouts, explorers and young leaders from across the district took part in the Gang Show auditions at which new recruits battled it out with existing cast members who have to re-audition after three shows.

Fraser Reid, 16, was one of those re-auditioning this year. He said: "I've performed in three Gang Shows and every time I've had a fantastic experience.

"Having to re-audition was nerve-racking but more fun than I thought it would be although I'm relieved to have made it through."

He added: "There really is nothing quite like being in Gang Show and I couldn't imagine not doing it. You make the best of mates and although it's hard work, it's worth it when you hear the audience cheering you on opening night."

The show, which will be performed at the Alban Arena from Wednesday, February 10, to Saturday, February 13, 2010, will play to over 4,000 people during its run.

Tickets go on sale at the end of November and ticket forms can be requested from the show box office on 01727 830397. More information is available on the website www.stalbansgangshow.com
