Harpenden gallery owner puts himself in the picture

AFTER two decades of being asked if he paints himself, Harpenden gallery owner Drew Wilson is finally holding an exhibition of his own work.
Drew, who dropped out of art school before starting his gallery business, describes his work as “abstracted landscapes” which he achieves by using as few brush strokes as possible and trying not to fuss about too much. He went on: “Though they look fairly random, each painting is actually of a particular place that means something to me.
“I think of painting like putting a knot into a handkerchief; if you see someone has a knot in their handkerchief you know that they are trying to remember something but you haven’t got a clue what.
“I think when people see my work they sense they are a memory of somewhere but only I know where.”
Drew’s exhibition at the A&K Wilson Gallery in Station Approach, Harpenden, runs from today (Thursday) until Thursday, March 3. A selection of Drew’s work can be seen at www.akwilsongallery.co.uk
