Artist Carol Gillan’s pet project at Harpenden gallery
PUBLISHED: 15:21 12 March 2011
WELL-loved animal portrait artist Carol Gillan will be visiting a Harpenden gallery where her work is on display next Saturday afternoon, March 19.
The Lemongrove Gallery in the High Street is holding an exhibition of Carol’s work which is renowned for its bold and distinctive style.
Born in Lancashire and having studied art in Brighton, she worked as an illustrator until she decided to devote herself to a career as a full-time artist. Now based in Surrey, she specialises in dramatic and humorous animal and pet portraits.
Because of the nature of her work – and the sitters – she makes extensive use of photographs to capture the individual character of the animal.
Her work has been exhibited widely across the UK and Europe and in 2006, Carol was awarded first prize in the De Montfort New Artist competition.
Lemongrove Gallery manager, Olivia O’Sullivan, said: “Carol Gillan continues to delight our many customers with her stunning and very colourful animal portraits. I would like to take this opportunity to invite all local art lovers to the exhibition to meet Carol as I know she won’t fail to inspire.”
Carol will be at the gallery from 2pm to 4pm and for more information contact Olivia@thelemongrovegallery.co.uk
