They might not have been the originals, but that didn’t stop thousands of music lovers flocking to Harpenden’s Festival on the Field to enjoy a day of performances by some of the country’s top tribute acts.
The fundraising festival, run by the school associations of Sir John Lawes and Manland Primary School, was headlined by Madness soundalikes One Step Behind with support from other performers reproducing the sounds of One Direction, Katy Perry and Rihanna.
Festival on the Field organiser Mark Hill said: “We are delighted that so many people came along and enjoyed themselves. The first festival was very successful and we set ourselves a huge challenge to put on a show that was bigger and better. People came in their droves, and we had to keep the gate open for two hours longer than we planned. Early indications are that funds raised are up on 2012.
“My thanks to everyone who helped put on what is now established as Harpenden’s biggest music festival. We had 2,000 people in 2012 and it looks like the attendance this year was up significantly on that. Festival on the Field will be back – so watch this space!”
