Making their debut at The Farmer’s Boy in St Albans on Sunday night (16) are elephants and castles - a return to his home town for the duo’s guitarist and vocalist Chris Anderson.

The South London band, comprising Chris and vocalist Robin Spencer, will be playing a stripped-down set at the London Road pub.

The band are about to release their first EP What’s Left For Larry And Janet?, a collection of songs which celebrates London’s disappearing communities and points a finger at the money men who are bulldozing their homes and businesses.

Chris, who was born in the city’s hospital and grew up in Redbourn until moving to the capital seven years ago, said: “Whenever I’m back, I always try and grab a pint and a chat with [landlords] Ros and Doug. In London, lots of music venues are being closed down as new residents move near to established pubs and clubs, expecting them to suddenly stop their live music policies.

“It’s great to see a venue in St. Albans flourishing, promoting live music and serving good beer! Let’s hope that doesn’t change”.

Tonight (13) Right Hand Drive will be playing unusual rock songs from the last few decades at the Farmer’s and tomorrow night (14), the Pioneers return.

Joining elephants and castles for their debut appearance on Sunday will be Broken Forest.

Next Wednesday, October 19, it is open mic night with Pete Sutton and next Thursday, October 20, Co-Jones are back.
