A play by Peter Pan creator JM Barrie is coming to the local stage on Monday (17) for the first time since its inital appearance in 1918 when it was censored.

Io Theatre Company and Everyday Lives in War are putting on A Well Remembered Voice at the University of Herts’ Weston Auditorium from 7.30pm.

It focuses on Jack who died in the trenches. His mother believes a séance will allow her to communicate with him. His father is sceptical but it is to him that a well-remembered voice speaks out of the darkness.

The new production restores Barrie’s original words and his message about the effects of the war on those left behind, combining live music and physical theatre as well as mixing elegiac folk song with militaristic music.

Tickets are £10 with concessions £7, available by calling 01707 281127 or book online.
