Playing the music of Thelonious Monk at the Herts Jazz Club this Sunday will be saxophonist Tony Kofi and the Clark Tracey Trio.
Winner of the 2008 BBC Jazz Awards for best instrumentalist, Tony won a scholarship to study for a year at Berklee College in Boston. He has performed with David Murray Big Band, Courtney Pine, US3 and is the latest member of The World Saxophone Quartet.
His album of Monk’s compositions won the 2005 Jazz Parliamentary award and the 2005 BBC Jazz award for best ensemble and best album. He is currently working with Abdullah Ibrahim and Ekaya.
The evening gets underway at 7.30pm at the Terrace Suite, Hawthorne Theatre, Welwyn Garden City. Tickets in advance from www.hertsjazz.co.uk/currentseason.html are £3 students/£8 members/£10 concessions/£11 full.
