A MOVING insight into the nature of life can be found in the Abbey Theatre Studio from next Friday, October 15, when the Company of Ten puts on Three Tall Women.
The award-winning play by Edward Albee is the first studio production of the new season and shows one woman in three different times of life.
In Act One she is a 90-year-old in the early stages of dementia, reflecting on her life with a mixture of shame, pleasure, regret and satisfaction. She recalls the fun of her childhood and her marriage when she had an overwhelming optimism for the future yet she bitterly recalls the negative events that resulted in regret, including the death of her husband and the estrangement of her gay son.
In Acts Two and Three, two younger versions, a 52-year-old and a 26-year-old, join her and think about her mental and physical deterioration, reacting according to their ages and their views on the problems of ageing.
In a deft interweaving of experience and emotion, all three characters become aspects of the same woman.
