CLASSIC Shakespearean tale The Taming of the Shrew is being performed in a city centre walled garden next weekend.

St Albans-based Foot in the Door Theatre tell the tale of the hunt to find a husband for the fiery-spirited Kate in the Vintry Gardens by St Albans Abbey at 12.30pm and 3.30pm next Saturday, August 24, and Sunday, August 25.

Founded in 2007 by a group of students from The University of Winchester, Foot in the Door Theatre gave them the opportunity to showcase their talents in a professional manner and to produce shows outside their educational walls.

Over the years the company has expanded, with members ranging from students, graduates and performers from all works of life. It is currently based in St Albans under the care of local writer/director Kathryn Raw who lives in Marshalswick.

The company has produced a wide variety of family-friendly shows in and around Winchester and St Albans over the years. Most recently the company produced a new adaptation of The Snow Queen, written by Kathryn, which was performed at The Maltings Arts Theatre in the city centre.

The Taming of the Shrew is the company’s third performance in the Vintry Gardens, having previously staged productions of A Midsummer Night’s Dream and The Importance of Being Earnest as part of the 2011 and 2012 St Albans Festivals.

Entry is free and the audience is invited to bring a picnic.
