GENIUS of British jazz and long-time local resident, Stan Tracey, is bringing his quartet to the Maltings Arts Theatre next weekend as part of the St Albans Festival.

The concert at 8pm on Saturday, July 2, has been arranged by local jazz-promotion group fansofstan and features the classic line-up of Stan on piano, Bobby Wellins on saxophone, Guy Barker on trumpet and the usual suspects, Clark Tracey on drums and Andrew Cleyndert on bass.

Stan is now 84 and showing little sign of putting his feet up – he is much in demand at gigs and festivals all over the country and beyond.

Recording continues apace with Soundcheck, a duo/trio double CD released to much acclaim in January and this October will see the arrival of A Child’s Xmas in Wales, Stan’s first new composition for almost a decade and a companion piece to his much-loved Under Milk Wood suite featuring his 22-year-old grandson Ben as narrator.

Tickets for the arts theatre concert are 17 available from the Tourist and Information Centre on 01727 864511 or online at www.allaboutstalbans.com
