A FRENCH-themed musical odyssey set in the late 1950s is the slant which St Albans theatre company OVO are giving All’s Well That Ends Well at their new venue in the city centre.
The Shakespeare play, set in the late 1950s, moves between the bohemian caf� culture of the Parisian left bank and the Algerian war of independence.
It continues the series of Ovo’s popular musical Shakespeare which has previously included As You Like It in the summer of love, a thirties jazz themed Twelfth Night and Much Ado About Nothing set on VE Day.
The latest production mixes the philosophical musings of Jean Paul Sartre and Simone de Beauvoir with the smooth tunes of Edith Piaf and Jacques Brel to crete a bittersweet love story.
All’s Well That Ends Well, which is being performed at the company’s new home in Pudding Lane, is the second half of OVO’s summer festival of theatre. It opened yesterday (Wednseday) and runs until Friday, June 25, with performances scheduled to avoid England’s World Cup games.
