A NEW big bass drum will be shown off by St Albans Symphony Orchestra (SASO) at its two children’s concerts this Sunday.
The acquisition is thanks to generous supporters who have contributed more than 1,500 to SASO’s percussion fund which was launched during the summer.
Children who come to St Saviour’s Church, Sandpit Lane, for the concerts at 2pm and 3.30pm will be among the first given an opportunity to bang the new drum as well as trying out other instruments during the interval.
SASO’s chair, Kieran McGuirk said: “We are absolutely delighted that our appeal for help in buying new percussion has exceeded its target, enabling us to buy our magnificent new drum and other instruments. We are most grateful to the Advertiser who helped to publicise our appeal and to our donors who made some very generous contributions.”
