A GIFTED young pianist from St Albans has been awarded a Robert Lewin Scholarship to help pay for his piano lessons.

Julian Trevelyan, aged just 10 years old, achieved a distinction at grade 6 and is among 65 other outstanding musicians, recognised this year by Awards for Young Musicians (AYM).

AYM's director Hester Cockcroft said: "We have a huge number of applications for support this year, so Julian should be very proud of the achievement in gaining an award."

Julian, who is home schooled, comes from a musical family. He is set to perform as part of the St Albans Festival next Tuesday, June 30, at St Albans Town Hall. He will be joined by another young pianist, Chantal Osindero, for a lunchtime recital.
