The time honoured masque of St George and the Dragon will be performed at five locations around the city centre on Boxing Day.
St Albans Mummers are putting on their traditional play featuring a light-hearted look at life, death and resurrection with several fierce battles involving St George and unlikely opponents, dubious cures unknown to science, excruciating poetry and awful jokes.
The first performance was in 1967 and the play today is essentially the same but the cast has changed a bit and some of the original audience now bring their grandchildren.
Each performance is a little different and includes topical items and interaction with the onlookers.
The Mummers can be seen at 11.30am at the Town Hall, 12.15pm at The White Hart Hotel, 1pm at the West End of St Albans Abbey, 1.45pm at The Fighting Cocks and 2.30pm at the Clock Tower.
