He cries with great precision and considerable dramatic effect but the many offers of children who cry do not fit the bill because crying generally and crying exactly to order are two different things.
Suggestions of hat pins and even the deprivation of teddies were considered needlessly cruel so the search is widening - to find director Norma Jenkins' ideal wailing child.
To discover why the wailing is so essential to Yasmina Reza's comic masterpiece, the play is being performed in the Abbey Theatre Studio from October 16 to 24.
