ORIGINAL artists sing their greatest hits on the Alban Arena stage next Thursday, April 18, when the Solid Silver 60s Show comes to town.

Now in its 28th year the show features Mike Pender, the original voice of The Searchers, Dave Berry and Wayne Fontana, all backed by New Amen Corner and with special guests The Merseybeats.

The show, which starts at 7.30pm, features songs such as Sweets For My Sweet, Sugar And Spice, Don’t Throw Your Love Away, The Crying Game, Little Things and many more.

The Illegal Eagles will be swooping into the Arena from 8pm next Friday, April 19, with their tribute act.

Tight harmonies and attention to detail are synonymous with The Illegal Eagles who play all the classic Eagles hits including Hotel California, Lyin’ Eyes, New Kid in Town, Take It to the Limit and Rocky Mountain Way.

The line-up of Phil Aldridge, Keith Atack, Jeff Green and Darin Murphy – the founder members of the Illegal Eagles – was completed in 2010 by the addition of Garreth Hicklin who has the ability to capture the emotion of Don Henley.

Activities and interactive sessions will be held both on and off stage at the Arena when it hosts the first-ever St Albans and District Family Fair next Saturday, April 20.

It runs from 11am-5pm and is a chance for children and parents alike to sample something new.

The fair is the brainchild of three local mums, Claire Healy, editor of local community magazine Raring2go!, Karen Broom, director of Kool Kidz Camps and Parties and Jo Maher, who is director of Vista St Albans CIC.

Entry is free and as a reminder, the organisers will be around the city centre this Saturday (13) with their friend Buzzy to promote it.

n Comedy drama Hyde Park On Hudson screens at the Arena at 7.30pm next Tuesday, April 16, and at 1.30pm and 7.30pm next Wednesday, April 17.

In June 1939, President Franklin Delano Roosevelt (Bill Murray) and his wife Eleanor (Olivia Williams) host the King and Queen of England (Samuel West and Olivia Colman) for a weekend at the Roosevelt home at Hyde Park on Hudson in upstate New York – the first-ever visit of a reigning English monarch to America.

With Britain facing imminent war with Germany, the Royals are desperately looking to Franklin for support, but international affairs must be juggled with the complexities of Franklin’s domestic establishment as wife, mother, and mistresses all conspire to make the royal weekend an unforgettable one.
