TATE Modern lecturer and guide Valerie Woodgate is to talk about 20th-century British artist Stanley Spencer at the Radlett Centre on Tuesday, February 14. The lecture, presented by the Radlett Art Society, will begin at 1pm and admission is free. Stanley Spencer is recognised as one of the most original artists of his generation. After training at the Slade School and London University, he served in the Royal Army Medical Corps during the First World War. He went on to become an official war artist during the Second World War and afterwards was best known for working on a series of large-scale and controversial religious paintings.
