Saxophonist Simon Spillett and his quartet play Herts Jazz Club this Sunday.
Winner of the 2011 British Jazz Award for tenor saxophone, Simon is recognised as one of the most distinctive saxophonists on the current UK jazz scene, appearing at venues such as Ronnie Scott’s Club and at major jazz festivals from Birmingham to Brecon.
A regular member of The Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Orchestra, he has accompanied stars including veteran jazz singer Jon Hendricks, pop icons Will Young, Mick Hucknall, Andrea Corr and Sharleen Spiteri as well as celebrated vocalist Monica Mancini.
The quartet’s music is rooted in the classic sound of British jazz in the 1950s and 60s. The evening at the Hawthorne Theatre, Welwyn Garden City, gets underway at 7.30 pm and tickets in advance from www.hertsjazz.co.uk/currentseason.html are £3 students/£8 members/£10 concessions/£11 full.
