A ST Albans secondary school is one of 16 which have been chosen to take part in an inaugural debate about Shakespeare. Students at Beaumont School were selected from more than 60 schools to take part in the First Ever Great Shakespeare Debate which is being held on February 21 and 22 in Stratford-upon-Avon. There is no charge for taking part in the event which includes overnight accommodation and a trip to the theatre to see the Royal Shakespeare Company's production of The Crucible. The students will debate such topics as "Shakespeare believes that Anthony should have stayed clear of Cleopatra" and "Isabella should have slept with Angelo." More general Shakespeare topics will form the motions of successive rounds allowing students to use and widen their Shakespearean knowledge as they debate their A-level set texts.
