IT was a toss up which was the scariest moment last weekend at Best Theatre Arts – youngsters in Halloween get-up for a special charity event or a surprise inspection by Ofsted.
Annette Holland, principal of the St Albans-based theatre school, explained that each group had their own party at the Hullabaloo event to raise money for The Children’s Society and as well as lots of fun, theatre games, singing songs and dancing, it raised �348.
But the arrival of inspectors from Ofsted did not put a dampener on the party atmosphere. Annette said: “The Ofsted visit did come at a rather strange time but thank goodness all our policies, processes and records were in place. We were thrilled (and relieved) when they said we were compliant on every point and we passed with flying colours.”
Students of Best are now preparing for two pantomimes in December – Robin Hood and the Folkz in the Wood performed by older children at the SandPit Theatre in Marshalswick and Jack and the Beanstalk for the younger ones.
