THE Malcolm Sargent Festival Choir will be making its ninth appearance at St Albans Abbey next Saturday, October 24.

The choir will be performing Faure's Requiem preceded by Cantique de Jean Racine and Durufle's Requiem in the Abbey which they describe as one of their favourite venues, not only because of the excellent acoustics but also the enthusiastic audience they attract.

In addition to the festival choir, members of the Parliament Choir and The Southbank Sinfonia will be performing.

The soloists will be Gerard Collett, baritone, Caroline MacPhie, soprano and Madeleine Shaw, mezzo. The concert will be conducted by Simon Over, the festival choir's director of music who is also the founder director of the Parliament Choir.

The festival choir, through performances such as the one in the Abbey, helps to perpetuate the memory of Sir Malcolm Sargent and the work undertaken by him to make classical music available to everyone. Wherever possible the choir, which is a registered charity, helps to raise funds to support children's charities.

The concert begins at 7.30pm and tickets at 25, 20 and 15 (with some unreserved seats at 5) are available from Abbey Musical Events on 01727 890256. Cheques should be made payable to Abbey Musical Events but most credit cards are accepted. Alternatively tickets are available through the choir's office on 0207 602 6818.

Further details about the choir and its future commitments are available on the website www.malcolmsargent.org
