YOUNG organist Robert Dixon is putting on the next recital in a series organised by the New School of Organ Studies in St Albans city centre.

Next Tuesday, August 30, he will be appearing in a lunchtime recital at Marlborough Road Methodist Church performing works by J.S.Bach, Gigout, Mendelssohn and Percy Whitlock. The recital will end with Widor’s Symphony No 5.

Robert is currently senior organ scholar at Jesus College Cambridge where he is about to begin his second year reading for a degree in theology. He also accompanies and occasionally directs the two college choirs in their schedule of services, concerts, recordings and tours.

Previously the organ scholar of Gloucester Cathedral and prior to that at Oundle School in Northamptonshire, he became a a Fellow of the Royal College of Organists in July 2010 and is currently studying with Gordon Stewart.

Robert is increasingly in demand as a solo recitalist and as an accompanist and has played at such locations as St Paul’s Cathedral, York Minster and the Royal Albert Hall as well as in all parts of the world.

More recently he has given recitals in Bradford, Gloucester, Hereford and Worcester Cathedrals as well as at the Buxton Festival last month.

He has also played on four CDs and made recordings for BBC Radio Gloucestershire and BBC Radio 2 – with his most unusual performance to date being playing the oboe for the BBC on the Tweenies.
