After making a big splash at last year’s Herts Jazz Festival, pianist Reuben James kicks off 2014 for local jazz lovers.

He is appearing at the Herts Jazz Club, from 7.30pm this Sunday with his trio of Fergus Ireland, bass, and Ed Richardson, drums.

Reuben began playing piano and violin at five years old and was raised on an eclectic mix of music including jazz, gospel, neo soul, hip hop, R’n’B and classical music. His professional journey began in church where he would play every week, fine honing his skills in improvisation and the blues which eventually led him to study at the Birmingham Conservatoire.

The club mets at Campus West in Welwyn Garden City where capacity is currently smaller while refurbishment is carried out. Tickets in advance are £3 students, £8 members, £10 concessions and £11 full, available online at www.hertsjazz.co.uk/currentseason.html

On the door they will be £5 students, £9 members, £11 concessions and £13 full.
