AN OVERTURE written apparently just three hours before its world premiere opens the spring season of the UHArts spring season later this month. The Philharmonic at UH will be performing Mozart's overture to Don Giovanni which is regarded as testament to the composer's brilliant and rapid genius. It will be followed by the Oboe Concerto composed by Richard Strauss - a piece which is seldom performed because of its demanding solo part. The orchestra's principal oboist Tim Eaton will step into the limelight to play it. Lastly, the orchestra will perform Beethoven's Eroica Symphony. First performed just over 200 years ago, the Eroica was regarded as the most substantial, epic and daring symphony ever written. Conductor Robin Browning described it as arguably the most important work Beethoven ever composed and predicted the concert would be a highlight of the UHArts season. The concert is taking place from 7.30pm on Sunday, February 12, at The Weston Auditorium at the University of Herts in Hatfield. Tickets are £12 with concessions £10 and students and children £5. They can be obtained by calling 01707 281127 or 284004 or fax ticket requests to 01707 286040.
