HARD-working organist Samuel Hudson is putting on next Tuesday’s lunchtime concert at a city centre church as part of the St Albans Festival.

He is the first tenant of the post of college organist at Haileybury School in Herts, a post he took up in September last year. Alongside the role sits a busy freelance schedule as an organist and choir director – he is the assistant organist of St Sepulchre-without-Newgate in London – and has recently founded a new vocal ensemble specialising in English baroque music called SW1.

Samuel, who is appearing on Tuesday at the New School of Organ Studies at Marlborough Road Church, has also been senior organ scholar at Wells Cathedral and director of a chamber choir at Glastonbury.

As an organ recitalist, Samuel has performed at Wells, St Paul’s and Bristol Cathedrals, Bath Abbey, Christchurch Priory, Girton and st John’s Colleges in Cambridge.

His recital will include works by J.S.Bach, Howells and Durufle and it begins at 12.30pm with light lunches available.

Admission is free with a retiring collection in aid of the New School of Organ Studies and the church. Further details can be obtained from 01727 865979 or email clarabella@waitrose.com
